Great Places to Eat: Melbourne

I recently spent three days in Melbourne with my fiancé (he popped the question while we were there!). We are both obsessed with good food, in fact, the only thing we had planned before we left is where we would eat our dinner each night. While we were away we ate some fantastic food from 3-course dinners to light lunches and even the BEST cupcake I have ever tasted. So here are my top 3 recommendations on where to find great food in Melbourne.

Fitzroy Social

We jumped on before we left to check out some great deals for 3-course meals in Melbourne. We came across the $59 3-course meal deal at Fitzroy social and couldn’t go past it. While opting for this kind of deal does restrict you to a limited menu, there is certainly enough variety to please everyone.

The deal included an entrée platter to share with warm bread and butter, an arancini ball each, cinnamon calamari and roast pork with apple and pear puree. While I’m not a fan of calamari I could not fault the other elements of this dish. So much deliciousness on one plate.

This was then followed by a main meal each, with two sides for the table and a delicious dessert to finish off the meal. All topped off with one drink each. For main I had the rump steak with pepper sauce, chips and salad. The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. The salad was light and fresh, and the chips were crispy with a delicious seasoning.

Then there was dessert. I am a huge dessert person and I was absolutely in love with the desserts here. I chose the Nutella and caramel tart, but also happily finished off my fiancés chocolate ganache when he found it a bit too sweet to finish. To me, both desserts were amazing. I was in heaven.

Brown Bagels

Brown Bagels is an absolute gem! I first ate here when I was in Melbourne 5 years ago and I couldn’t wait to go back this time around. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The bagels themselves are soft and delicious, filled with beautiful fresh ingredients. I recommend the salami bagel – salami, basil pesto, cream cheese, lettuce and sundried tomato. The flavour combination is amazing!

Cupcake Central

So, I mentioned that when I was in Melbourne I had the BEST cupcake I have ever tasted. The whole time we were in Melbourne I was dying to go to Cupcake Central and finally, on the last day of our trip my dream was fulfilled. I have followed Cupcake Central on Instagram for ages now. I practically drool as I scroll through their pictures and videos of delicious cupcakes. My fiancé and I decided on red velvet and lemon meringue. They were honestly the softest, fluffiest and most delicious cupcakes I’ve experienced. If you’re in Melbourne, do yourself a favour and grab one of these beautiful cupcakes.

I hope you enjoy the food as much as I did!
